چکیده

The effect of the three cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives cycloxydim, sethoxydim and clethodim on the incorpora tion of l4C-labelled acetate, malonate, acetyl-CoA or malonyl-CoA into fatty acids was studied in an enzyme preparation isolated from barley chloroplasts (H ordeum vulgare L. var. “A lexis”). The herbicides cycloxydim, clethodim and sethoxydim block the de novo fatty acid biosynthesis from [2-l4C]acetate and [ l 14C]acetyl-CoA, whereas that of [2-14C]malonate and [2-l4C]malonyl-CoA is not affected. The data indicate that the mode of action of the cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives in the sensitive bar ley plant consists in the inhibition of de novo fatty acid biosynthesis by blocking the acetyl-CoA carboxylase (EC 6.4.1.2.).

Mode of Action of Herbicides Affecting Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase and Fatty Acid Biosynthesis

The mode o f action o f cyclohexane-l,3-dione-type (cycloxydim, clethodim , sethoxydim, tralkoxydim ) and aryloxyphenoxypropanoate-type herbicides (diclofop, fenoxaprop, haloxyfop, fluazifop) is sum m arized in this review. Both herbicide classes, though structurally com pletely different, specifically block the same target enzyme i.e. the plastid acetyl-CoA carboxy lase (ACC) (EC 6.4.1.2). ...

A Novel W1999S Mutation and Non-Target Site Resistance Impact on Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase Inhibiting Herbicides to Varying Degrees in a UK Lolium multiflorum Population

BACKGROUND Acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibiting herbicides are important products for the post-emergence control of grass weed species in small grain cereal crops. However, the appearance of resistance to ACCase herbicides over time has resulted in limited options for effective weed control of key species such as Lolium spp. In this study, we have used an integrated biological and molecul...

Acetyl coenzyme a carboxylase activity in developing seedlings and chloroplasts of barley and its virescens mutant.

Acetyl coenzyme A (CoA) carboxylase activity of whole tissue homogenates and chloroplast preparations was analyzed as the acetyl-CoA-dependent incorporation of [(14)C]bicarbonate into an acid-stable product. The absolute requirement for ATP and MgCl(2), the complete inhibition with avidin, and end-product analysis were consistent with the presence of acetyl-CoA carboxylase activity. Little diff...

Characterization of Maize Acetyl-Coenzyme A Carboxylase.

Maize (Zea mays L.) leaf acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) was purified about 500-fold by ammonium sulfate fractionation and gel filtration and blue Sepharose affinity and anion-exchange chromatography. Most ACCase activity (85%) recovered from the anion-exchange column was found in a highly purified fraction (specific activity 5.5 [mu]mol acid-stable product min-1 mg-1) that consisted primarily ...

Resistance of various biotypes of Canary grass (phalaris. Spp) to acetyl-CoA carboxylase-inhibiting herbicides.

Little seed canary grass (Phalaris minor L.) is a major weed in wheat fields in some parts of Iran. To evaluate the efficacy of molecular and greenhouse methods in detecting the resistance of 49 biotypes of canary grass(Phalaris. Spp) to acetyl-CoA carboxylase-inhibiting herbicides, two methods including whole plant screening and PCR-based molecular methods were applied. Results showed that the...
